Close to the old town in the historic center of Zurich. Originally it was divided into the small town (also called the Lesser Town), to the left of the Limmat, and the large town (several towns, today also called Dörfli or Niederdorf), to the right of the Limmat. The town hall is also located here, which is still in use today. There are also various shops and restaurants in Niederdorf. Another special feature is the house at Spiegelgasse 14, where Lenin lived during his stay in Zurich.The history of this district is particularly visible in the small town, to the left of the Limmat. The Schipfe is one of the oldest districts in Zurich. The name is reminiscent of the boatmen who once launched their boats into the water here (“schupften”, . pushed).
